Wondering if anyone here has interest in Oney brothers in the Northeast part of Reeves County?
Ann Whitchurch, kind of coincidence we both have interest here and Wise County also.
Would anyone share the amount of time that elapsed from signing their contract to actually receiving royalties? I am trying to get a good idea of the time frame involved. Many thanks and Happy New Year!
Cynthia â by âsigning their contractâ do you mean signing the lease? Later â Buzz
Cynthia, it could be anytime between now and a year after the primary term of the lease you signed expires, or never. They may never drill. Thatâs if you are talking about the lease. If you are calling a division order a contract, Iâd say 6 months to 2 years.
Or lieu, early rising plays hob with my spelling.
Billy, yes interesting coincidence. I have a Reeves County map but it is very large. If youâd like just your area, post your legal and I can try to scan that part.
Thanks Buzz,
I looked at the map you suggested. It says that the minerals on Abstract 5571 are patented in 1943. The patenteeâs name is E. B. Daniel, 640 acresâsupposedly there is an active lease from 2005. The man who sold me the property included also the mineral rights. He has been paid a bonus of $10 per acre, oil royalty, and gas royalty each of 0.09375.
This is very confusing and complicated to me. Does anyone know what it means? Your input will be very helpful.
Thanks once again
Shanthi
Buzz, I didnât understand your property description to Shanthi, i.e., âabout 11-1/2 miles SSW of Pecos, about a mile north of I-20.â That didnât make any sense to me. Are you sure thatâs correct? Just curious. Linton
Shanthi and others,
I also have a piece in the same area. No div order but I do have a lease that has been in place for a coup[le of years. My location is abstract 4061, Blk C-18, Sec 4, w/2, SE/4. I think I am north of I-20 somewhere, West of Pecos.
All the best to everyone, Fred
Ok folks. This will be our first tax year receiving oil lease income and a small amount of oil income. Any ideas on expenses for deductions? We are residents of Louisiana with interest in Oklahoma and Texas. Thanks in advance, Ray and Tica.
Billy, I went to the link Buzz gave us. When I zoomed in it gave section numbers. You can pan back and forth with the arrows until you find your general area, then zoom in to your section and/or surrounding sections.

Thank you for the responses. To be specific, from the signing of the lease. I have no division orders yet.
Cynthia, the lease bonus on a paid-up lease is in lieu of having to pay you delay rentals. They pay you so they do not have to drill a well for some number of years. Many times, the longer the lease, the longer before you get a well because the operator will drill the leases that are about to run out first so they donât have to lease those acres again. Lessees can lease small amounts of acres so they can participate in a well that someone else drills; they never intended to drill a well. Larger operators could lease as a form of area denial, to keep the competition out. I think it is safe to say that more leases expire with no drilling than are perpetuated by drilling. Nothing the lessor can do after the lease is signed, you just have to wait and see.
Shanthi - Section 1 or 4
Not enough information to determine your location. Later â Buzz
Buzz, it is Section 1, Block 72 Abstract 5571; (N/2)
Section 4, Block C-18 Abstract 5565 (SW/4)
I do not know which direction they are from the town of Pecos.
Thanks, Shanthi
Shanthi â your properties are cater-cornered to one another about 11-1/2 miles SSW of Pecos, about a mile north of I-20. As far as drilling activity in your area of Reeves the last year, I would say only âmildly warm.â Most activity has been in 3 areas: mostly vertical wells surrounding Pecos itself and south and southeast of the city. Horizontal wells predominate northwest of Pecos. Drilling activity has waned of late, dropping from over 40 rigs running several months ago to the lower 30s more recently. Later â Buzz
To Fred Klein,
Would you mind letting me know the land man who helped you with the lease on Section 4, Block C-18?
Appreciate your information.
