I need help understanding how to terminate a lease which has been in effect for more than 40 years. The lease is in Blk OW and is held by XTO. The well is a deep gas well which produced well for more than 40 years. There has been no production in more than a year. How do I get this lease terminated so we can get this section released? It’s in the NE area of Blk OW where there is currently a lot of activity. Thank you for any help.

Hello Mary,

First thing I would do is send XTO a certified letter (that someone has to sign for with a return receipt) stating that I want a release from the lease. If that doesn’t work you may have to have your attorney get in touch with XTO.
