I recently (after almost 2 years) completed the legal process of transferring my late grandmother’s mineral rights into my name. I was also able to secure unclaimed property monies paid to my grandmother into the Oklahoma Unclaimed Property Fund.
However, the Oklahoma Unclaimed Property Fund was unable to release some of the funds because the mineral properties listed in the final account and petition put together by my lawyer didn’t include the mineral properties for which the remaining funds were paid. The strange thing is, the mineral properties to which these funds were paid is only one section over from the mineral properties once owned by my grandmother.
She owned the following property before selling it in 1997:
- Stephens County - Section 33 Township 2N Range 7W

The mineral property for which unclaimed funds have been paid on behalf of a “Mary Frances Simpson” into the Oklahoma Unclaimed Properties Fund is:
- Stephens County - Section 34 Township 2N Range 7W
I believe my grandmother owned the mineral rights for the above property as well. It’s too coincidental that it’s just one section over from her previous property and the monies were paid to a person with her same name.
That being said, I’m unable to find any land records with her name on them in the Oklahoma Public Land Records database (http://okcountyrecords.com). Her name doesn’t show up on any of the 76 records returned when searching Stephens County for all Section 34 Township 2N Range 7W records:
Does anyone have any advice on how to find the land records involving my grandmother and these mineral rights / unclaimed property funds?
It’s possible she still owns these mineral rights, but I’m unable to find any records to prove this.
