I just inherited “Mineral Ownership Rights” Divide County North Dakota - Section 11: SW 1/4 and NE 1/4 - 53.33334. I am completely new to this. Can you help me understand?
First thing; there are a lot of section 11s. You need range and township to specify a location. Read:
an older publication but relevant. become familiar with this:
The daily activity , GIS map server and General Statistics & Data are a daily visit by me. If you to really to get in the weeds, subscribe to the Basic Services, $50 a year IIRC.
A more expensive service is the North Dakota Recorders Information Network. Here you can look up deeds and leases. It is the county clerks stuff on line. If you got the rights thru a probate you should be able to find the deed of distribution that transferred them to you.
I forgot one important item, ND has an income tax, and you may want to get back some of the tax the oil company withholds. Search for ND tax
You also need to know you must file a mineral deed and Mineral Claim Form in the counties of your minerals - must be done every 20 or 20 years!
