That’s a fine report from the Feed Store News Network roving reporter on Special Assignment in Breslau.
You didn’t mention the frack pond/tank and I don’t recall seeing one a couple of weeks ago. Along those same lines, I wonder how close the nearest SWD well is? I’m aware of at least one on US 95 around Moulton but that’s a long way to haul water.
I was looking at the RRC map and it looks like there’s a nat gas gathering pipeline running south from the plugged Steffek well and operated by Mascot Oil Co. If the map is accurate, it’s really close to Blackshear.
So other than an SWD well, it sounds like most of the infrastructure is pretty close to being in place.
Any feed store updates? Wouldn’t be surprised if they have this well fracked pretty soon.
I have an update. Drove down there this afternoon (05/12). They’re fracking now. Don’t know how long they’ve been at it but it usually takes around 20 days barring problems and the number of stages.
WATER: Still no frac pond in sight but two pipes in the road ditch running off to the east. Maybe the pond is down there somewhere and the water is being recycled? They’re doing that nowadays. Conjecture.
SAND: They’re not using those ‘Sand Box’ transporters but the old school method. It’s coming down 532 from the west. They have a battery of sand silos where they mix the sand, water, and chemicals into the slurry to be used in the frac. Chemicals are done by ‘the chemical guys’ and are generally not part of the fracking outfit.
FRACKING: This is being done by Flying A Pumping Services. I’m unfamiliar with them but if you DYOR you’ll see that they aren’t from around here. In fact, their home page looks like they’re operating on the surface of Mercury. That doesn’t make them better or worse; just sayin’.
(GAS?) PIPELINE: Pipe is being laid off to the east. Assuming that is going to connect to a gathering pipeline somewhere over there.
If you’ve never seen this process at work, I recommend doing a drive by with the windows down. Sensory overload.
WI, I was over at the BLACKSHEAR UNIT site last Wednesday, and they were setting up some FRAC eq. and still hooking up Tank Batteries, and Seperators, and a dehydrator unit. As I was leaving, there was a Heavy Haul truck turning off of 957 heading down the gravel road to the right or Easterly direction. That is LCR 241 it turns into LCR 240, the truck went down the road until I could see several belly scrapers and other equip. to the North of the road. He turned into there. I’m not sure but I would bet that is where the FRAC water pit is located.
EOG just made a large acquisition in the core of the Eagle Ford and today announced a huge deal in the Utica after buying Encino. It is just my personal opinion, but I would not expect very much development in our area because the drilling dollars just won’t compete with the other two areas they acquired. I could be wrong, but I wouldn’t expect them to start drilling exploratory wells closer to Schulenburg, etc.
I just checked and see that in the period 5/1 - 6/1 Redhawk has filed 60 more leases in north Lavaca County generally from Komensky up to Engle and then east to 77. Nothing at all in Fayette and leases by EOG (59) are all down around Weid on 90A. So things are still happening but to what end? I recall my Cypress lease had something like six JV partners so it would seem that these partners may have some say in whether or not any more exploratory wells are drilled. No telling what the actual documents say.
Drove to Blackshear on Wednesday 6/11 and there was no one at all on site. Not even security. Odd. However, has anyone actually seen them drilling out plugs and beginning flowback? I’m thinking that’s next.
And since EOG is so good about hiding the ball we probably won’t see anything on the RRC site until the very last minute… unless someone wants to go down there, sit in the road ditch, count oil haulers, and do us all a big favor by reporting back here every day! (just kidding, mainly)
May 2025 saw just a few leases filed for tracts in southern Fayette.
Baytex filed for tracts in Abstracts 180, 185, 240, 265 and 266 south, southeast and west of Flatonia.
EOG leased with us for three years w/ option to renew in May of 24’. No drilling updates to my knowledge. $1200/acre at 22%.
New poster here! Happy Father’s Day to all dads. Lotsa night glow coming from the Blachshear pad last night. Curiosity called for a drive by this morning. The pad was very populated with equipment, looks like SWD trucks mostly (10+ lined up, 2 of them backed up to the onsite tanks) and there is an intermittent flare going. Not that familiar with the process, could be in flow back, post fracking. I’m guessing??
Definitely sounds like flow back. Will be interesting to see when more oil trucks start lining up.
Blackshear is in flow back…started I believe on saturday. Redhawk aka EOG has a new GAS pipeline running from it to the east and northeast about 6 miles or so to just about 1/2 mile from US77. The mascot pipeline would not be capable of handling the quantities they expect from multiple wells/units. The water they used came from a 81 acre tract off of cr240 that rumor has it Redhawk purchased. It already had 3 large ponds on it and they added more. They also had pipes running from a pond on the western side of Blackshear, and had a line coming all the way from 1295A. There are high hopes and big expectations. After the well logs were studies from the Francis well, EOG purchased leases from another leasing company and leased the remaning tracts. Stories being told that they are going to be putting a pad in for 2 units just east of FM 1295, by 1295A. this is by the MAtrix and Modern units. the new Redhawk units will have north laterals…going by the Feed Mill in Komensky. Did someone mention that the Francis well was drilled in Austin Chalk ? more to come
Thanks for all that information. Not that it matters but the gas pipeline has probably been attached to the DCP Gathering pipeline that goes just east of SBG. You mention 1295A. I thought I had been on every country road back in my misspent youth but I never heard of that one and I can’t find it on a map. Please point it out. Thanks.
1295A is about 2 miles south of the intersection of fm 532 and fm 1295 by the feed mill. Going south from there on fm 1295, 1295A is on the west side right before the first curve…basically a dead end road that serves about 8 tracts of land.
I have a news flash from the Feed Store News Network. Rumor has it that ‘they’ are going to drill a well (go to Google Maps) somewhere around the intersection of St. John Road and CR 226. If you’re a local yokel this would be just to the south of the crest of Lookout Hill. The land mentioned was leased by Redhawk so I guess that’s who ‘they’ are. Again, it’s only a Feed Store rumor at this point but something to keep in mind. Stay tuned…
After review, I have a clarification. If you’re looking on your iPhone, ‘St. John Road’ is labeled as LCR 225. So in this case it would be somewhere around the intersection of 225 and 226.
I can’t get my screen shot of Google Maps to scan correctly, but if you mark the locations of Francis, Blackshear, and the potential new location, they all line up SW-NE. Trace it on to the NE and the line crosses between SBG and Weimar about where 90 goes under 10. (Nickerson Farms for us old folks.) If you go back and search leases by Redhawk, this more or less lines up with what they’re doing.
I am at 225 &. 226 most be close by me
I don’t use names unless it’s already out there but I’ll just say that the term ‘pecan farm’ was used and not particularly ON that property. Could just be in the neighborhood. Let us know if you see any stakes in the field.
If they are indeed marching NE, things start to get really interesting for those of us who leased to KEW. We’re located just North of 226 and St John, so that would potentially prove up a lot of KEW’s acreage in the area.
Deep Hz AC Trend.pdf (185.5 KB) I am posting this map created in ENVERUS to show the Deep Hz Austin Chalk trend as I see it.
Note the Red Hawk Blackshear in the SW. And connect the dots through the EOG Tonkawa and then to the Magnolia et al Deep Hz AC set of producing wells around Brenham in Washington County.
The EOG Tonkawa well was drilled under stealth name by EOG in 2017 and completed in 2018. Shorter lateral with old frac approach has produced over 7 BCF and is still making over 1 million CF of gas per day after 7+ years.
Trend is pretty clear from SW to NE. Definite limits in the NW and SE directions, but I feel comfortable saying that a line through these three areas is the “core” of the trend
It says your PDF is private, can you maybe try posting a screenshot? I’d be real curious to see that map.
