all i know is my mom is the only child of my grandfather, Bryant Draughon McClure, his family had 500 acres or so in 1840 near Pioneer/Rising Star.....he put all the mineral rights in the 1930's in his families name because he himself was selling drilling supply equipment up and down the coast of Cali...he had a 11% interest then sold half of that.. Landman Stephenson in 2001 confirmed to me on the phone that his name is still on the plot as to 5.5% mineral rights,,,5.5%, AND that there were monies HELD BY THE COUNTY--I checked with the STATE COMPTROLLER it is NOT THERE! HOW CAN IT BE IN THE COUNTY COFFERS? ARENT THEY SUPPOSED TO MOVE THE FUNDS TO THE COMPTROLLER WITH MY GRANDPAS name on it???
Stephenson demanded a 33% OWNERSHIP, in writing by way of fax to me, to get the monies held at the county level in my grandfathers name to be moved to us!!
As of a couple of years ago, I DISCOVERED, that HIS SON is an attorney now in "town" and he AND STEPHENSON both! refused to reply to me!! I have no problem paying the man a third of the money sitting at the county BUT I AINT ABOUT TO GIVE THE CAT a third ownership!!! I did fax to Stephenson a "POWER OF ATTORNEY " of my mom to me to "authorize" Stephenson to research it...they NEVER contacted us back and ignore us...WHAT SHOULD WE DO NOW??
WHAT CAN I DO,,,my mom and I are poor and she is on a walker with a brain tumour
Should I contact the attorney general? I saw another "mary redferN' or some such post about being charged 30% by a landman...my understanding is the TX law is a "10% " finder fee???
