# Royalties and info on historic production/pricing?

My elderly and fiercely independent mother holds oil & gas interests in Reeves County, Texas. Royalties have been modest over the years, with some months not reaching minimums. We recently signed Division Orders confirming her ownership (the DO aligned with an inventory of her interests that I maintain). A month later, she received a very large royalty payment covering 3 months of production, the bulk of which is attributed to royalties on oil. But the payment is so out of the ordinary that she and I would like to understand what has caused this increase. Any resources I can use to track historic production and prices? I have reached out to the operator but not sure they will discuss with me without some sort of POA. A limited POA is in the works because this is becoming too confusing for my mom to track/understand over the phone/email. Any insight would be helpful. Thank you!

Generally division orders are sent for new wells and you confirm the calculation of the royalty DOI before signing. Compare the well(s) on the division order to the well(s) with the 3 months of oil production. You can find the permits, completion reports and production volumes on the RRC website to create your well files. If you post the well and operator, someone should be able to provide links to the information for your records. This would be a good time for you and your mother to create files for leases, land records (such as deeds), wells (well data and division orders), etc as a permanent system for the future.

Thank you for the response! I was able to track down a good deal of information through various websites and think I have what I need now to start building a system for the future. Seems like lots of databases have pieces of the puzzle but it’s hard to find all of them in one spot. Thank goodness for 7 day free trials on a few of the sites I used!

I would love to see a sample of this file system that you have recommended. I am still trying to straighten out minerals received from my mom and an aunt in Oklahoma. Thanks!
