I have heard that once a well is spud, it takes about a year to start receiving royalties. Additionally, I have heard that once the well is producing, you should see royalties in 60 to 90 days. Both of these items have come to pass. Why did I just receive the lowest royalty payout ever?

Not quite right. In general, for a horizontal well in Roger Mills, you can expect it to take four-five months for drill and complete, then another five months after first sales (not production) to get a Division order, then royalties at the six month after first sales. If many horizontals are drilled across mulitple sections, the time frame can stretch as it takes more months to do the Division Order title opinion on the extra mineral owners in each section.

If you want to share the well name, we may be able to help with the timing. Given that there are many horizontals being drilled in Roger Mills right now, they may have to shut in producing wells to protect them while wells are being fracked nearby. That can explain a low royalty month, along with volumes and prices for oil and gas contracts (which are not what you see in the news.)

This is the Red Rooster production reported so far. Do the numbers reflect what your royalty check(s) have shown so far? An immense amount of Gas, but less Oil than others near-ish by.

From what I saw; Two “Black Kettle” wells are “active.” Both by Mewbourne. Both are 21 year old wells and not producing much at all. Wouldn’t expect anything of any significance from those.

I looked pretty quickly, so not sure. Two “Black Kettle” wells were plugged and abandoned. I would mess around with this website if you want to learn more.

go to Public PUN search in the Help section. Enter county, hit search, then search for your wells in the “filter” line

The new BLACK KETTLE 19-30 AP FEE COM was spud 2/18/26, so probably still drilling. I checked FracFocus and it has not been fracked yet, too early. Hang in there for a few more months.

Yes, if you give the section, township and range, we can help. You can find old vertical wells using the OCC well records link. Use surface locations. For horizontals, is is a bit more complicated as the surface locations can be two to three miles away. We can help with that part.

If you have the legal location, then type it in the “Legal Location” box using leading zeroes. Example: section 1, 1N, 1W goes in as 0101N01W. All surface locations in that section will show up. You can filter by 1002A for completions. or 1000 for permits.

Red Rooster 1/12 DM 1H is in sections 1 and 12. You can use the name as a hint. It is in 13N-23W. It is not in your township so not beneficial for you.

Mewbourne’s Miller 20-29 DM FEE COM 1H is your well. It was spud 2/19/26, so should be finished soon. Royalties probably by Feb 2027. Potential for more infill wells later. It is on the far western side of sections 20 & 29 of 14N-22W. You probably have the older TUNE wells by Teocalli.
