Melissa:

From my past experiences, I would seek the assistance of an oil and gas attorney, preferably based in the area where the mineral rights are located. I attempted the probate process in 2004 and could see that it was too involved in areas that I was not familiar with. We hired an attorney and the cost was not bad as I shopped around for the best price. I did get references for the law firm prior to these services. Good luck with your dealings.

Did you use the information/documents the lawyer gave you and did the probate yourself? I still want to conduct the probate because the only other items in the estate consist of a few checks made out to the estate. Other than that, it is the mineral deeds we own in Michigan.

Mellissa:

The lawyers handled all the probate process. If you want to conduct the probate yourself, you might seek legal advice in regards to that process. Also, you might gather enough information on how to conduct it yourself without getting an attorney involved.
