I found some info on the Durst Survey. Energy Land Services has acquired more than 1,700 acres in that survey via mineral deeds. They are working with Black Stone Minerals.

I posted on another thread but there has been a permit filed for a stratigraphic test a few miles east of Alto. This is very close to the Durst Survey. I happened to be driving down the road a few days ago and saw equipment at what I believe is going to be the location.

My son visited the Kretzschmar wells NW of the 2 Mitsui Lipsey wells yesterday. He found out the Kretzschmar PBH 1H has tested positive for H2S and it appears like Alan has noted to be in a similar Haynesville zone as the Lipsey 1H. Comstock is going to notify the area of this and start a test to evaluate levels and possible remedies tomorrow (Tuesday) so we will see. The Kretzschmar PP 1H is in the Bossier and has been connected and flowing normally into the Pinnacle pipeline. The pad will be closed off for about a month to visitors and non essential personnel so we won’t have the option to visit until the all clear is announced. Funny how neighboring wells like Dollie Jones and Olajuwon had no issues with the H2S. Comstock has spent many millions on the Kretzschmar wells so I hope they are able to salvage PBH 1 H.

Alan, Do you know what if any measures Mitsui is doing to try and recover the Lipsey 1A well? I think they may be testing and flaring it like they are doing with the Kretzschmar PBH well that also is in the Haynesville at a similar depth. I know they started last Tuesday on it but do not know if they have gotten the H2S issue figured out yet. As far as I know there has not been any reports or filings done recently on either well that I can find.

I drove by the Mitsui pad location yesterday and was surprised to see a gate guard trailer and a pretty strong flare on the pad. I assume they must be doing something on the Lipsey 1H.

I have to assume that wells completed too low in the Haynesville portion may get some flow from the Smackover and that is where the H2S can come from. I know this happened in early deep wells in Lower Sabine Parish La.

Welcome to the forum! I suppose Comstock will have to file a revised G1 once they get the H2S figured out for the Kretzschmar PBH 1H 16234874 as even though they filed this one 8/31/26 they report no contact with the Smackover formation. I am not sure where the bottom hole landed but I do know the Bossier wells in the area seem to be free of this problem. Here is the current G1.

Anyone have an idea of the timing and process operators go about to evaluate and determine treatment measures for H2S wells? The Lipsey 1A and Kretzschmar PBH seem to both be going through this process with the gate guard and active flaring as mentioned earlier. Has anyone gone down CR340 lately to see what visual progress can be observed? The RRC is frustratingly slow in posting current activity.

Fracs go up/down and left right. They don’t know not to go down to deeper rock. My guess is the deeper portion of the lateral has some communication with the underlying SMK.

Thanks, are you saying they might be able to go back and find the intrusion and possibly seal the perforated area to exclude the unwanted gas and possibly salvage the well? I am just trying to understand all this.

The gas stream can be treated at the surface with the addition of a facility to capture and separate the H2S. There are several options available. The purchaser has strict limits about the constituents that make up the “gas” that goes down their pipeline. There is probably no realistic way to limit the H2S with the successful modern frac designs. I would think the biggest issue is whether the tubing and casing ran in the well can withstand the potential corrosive nature of the gas stream. If so, then the well could produce into a sales line for years.

I do remember the frac foreman telling me that they were going to install a “chrome type” liner in the well so maybe that is a means they are planning to use to limit the corrosion.

Chromium alloy pipe was a good call. They either anticipated H2S or other combinations of critical pressures, temperatures and gas components made it the favored choice.

Anthony I think you are watching the Lipsey 1A and I am watching the Kretzschmar Wells so hopefully between Mitsui and Comstock they will get this issue resolved. I keep looking for progress info but without being able to visit and actually talk to folks onsite there is very little info to be found.

I have interests with mitsui, but not with the Lipsey, but yes, as you said we all want to see how they work this out. I have no first hand knowledge, but I do believe they are very serious as they continue to invest millions. I was told the Bliss Creek 3D survey that is happening now was a collaboration between Comstock and Mitsui and the cost to map the geology was 27M. This info came from a reliable source. They are in deep now and I am sure they want to produce in the right depths.
