This well has produced more than 1 million MCF of gas in each of its first three full months of production, which is a new record for the Western Haynesville play:

May 2026: 1,190,178

June 2026: 1,056,816

July 2026: 1,215,436

According to the Texas Comptroller’s CONG system, gross gas sales for the three months were about $9,030,000.

The production unit is 679 acres.

A 25% cost-free royalty would have earned $3,325 per net acre during the three months.

Someone with 100 net acres would earn $332,500 in royalties in three months.

Thanks Alan, I wonder if you would check the status of the 2 Kretzschmar wells 34873 and 4 that are just above the Lipsey 2A. I believe one of them may be in the same zone. They both should be online now. Thanks, This is wonderful news!

That’s so weird, when I was there August 9th the boss told me they would be on line by the end of the week. Given they started last October there must be more to this story!

August production won’t be reported until early October.

Hello Alan,

Do you know the status of the Baker 101H?

It’s been producing since May, but it’s not a good well.

The Kretzschmar PP 1H (34873) was drilled to a true vertical depth of 16,752 feet, which is very close to the 16,781 TVD of the Mitsui Lipsey A 2H.

I think there were 2 Lipsey wells but I was told that one is “Sour” at my last visit and has been shut in. I don’t know if it was a Bossier or Haynesville well.

The “bad” well, the Lipsey 1H, was drilled deeper…tvd was 17,680. I’m guessing that is in the Haynesville, while Lipsey A 2H is in Lower Bossier.

They have to be monster wells at those gas prices.

In the case of Mitsui, I understand the product is for export to Japan. A country with zero petroleum resources and one of the largest data center expansions in the world. I have heard their project in Leon and Freestone referred to as a matter of Japanese national security. Looking at what they do next now that these test wells are done. One thing I will say, from looking at my check stub, the Whitaker 1H is no Lipsey 2H. Now they shall get the depths right and bring more production to the table.

First and foremost they are a business striving to make a profit. My guess is that they have a very knowledgeable marketing enterprise and they are supplying a large corporate user with a fixed spread on the pricing and also sending gas to an LNG export facility on the gulf coast. As in the refined products sector, there is a lot of trading and negotiating from a regional and global perspective. Their LNG is possibly going to Europe for a multinational like Shell and Shell is delivering to Japan from an Indonesian asset.

Seems like a lot of this western haynesville gas is going for export. I believe this is the case with Comsock as well.

Yes and there was the announcement that Comstock and Japan had formed a joint venture for a processing facility over in Anderson County recently. I don’t know if Mitsui was somehow involved or if the supply was going to come from Comstock via their Pinnacle gathering system. Saw the Dollie Jones RP fecently showed up on FracFocus but no Kretzschmar wells yet.

The US/Japan joint venture is a gas-fired power plant, planned to be one of the largest in the US. Comstock will be the primary provider of natural gas for the plant.

Yes, I also understand this to be true. Also the Bliss Creek 3-D seismic survey that has been taking place in Leon and Freestone County is supposedly a collaboration between Mitsui and Comstock. I was told when signing the release for the seismic survey that this was a $28 million project. They are mapping the entire geology of the area in order to plan the next phase of drilling. While the last mitsui test well is slow to come online, and the Whitaker test well wound up having an unremarkable yield, it seems like the real action has yet to come.

Comstock had problems drilling this well. Here’s a link to the well record only completion report. Comstock failed on the first two attempts to drill the lateral.
