# Mitsubishi Targeting Haynesville E&P Aethon in $8B Deal

Japan’s Mitsubishi is reportedly in talks to acquire Aethon Energy’s Haynesville assets in a deal that could be worth $8 billion.

I assume this would include Aethon’s Bossier/Haynesville wells in Robertson County, plus their leases in Robertson, Leon, and Freestone Counties.

There may be some confusion here… Mitsui has been actively leasing in Leon, Freestone, and Anderson Counties, and is currently drilling a well in Leon County. However, Mitsubishi is a different company from Mitsui.

If Mitsubishi is indeed in talks with Aethon, then we may have a new major player in the Western Haynesville. The others are Comstock and Expand (formerly Chesapeake).

Tokyo Gas, TGNR, should pick up the pace in the regular Haynesville as well. Should get very interesting very soon!
