My father was part of a group that purchased mineral rights in Dewey, Oklahoma. He recently passed away and my mom now owns them. Does she have to notify someone? Newfield Ex. contacted him before he died and they were going to do some side drilling on the land and sent a check as part of the force pool but have never heard anything else. What should I do to help my mom? Thanks.

Has a probate been filed? She will need to contact Newfield and see what title information they need to put her into pay status. You may also have to file a probate in the state of residence (if not OK) and also file a foreign probate in Dewey county. Start with Newfield.

Thank you for the response. We are in California and when you die here with a will they do not have a probate. I’m not sure what I need to do. I guess I will need to talk with an attorney in Oklahoma to find out what to do in that instance.
