Hi,

My family’s minerals are held by a well drilled in the 70s. It’s a marginal producer at best. Does anyone have a form letter they’ve used to put the operator on notice to request they drill another well or release our lease? There is horizontal production all around us! Thanks for your help.

Parker,

My aunt used an attorney to get a release on one of her leases that was HBP. Legal fees were about $1,000 if I remember right and took the better part of a year. The well was finally plugged and she has a new lease in that Section with Marathon, I believe.

Attached are a couple of articles that might help in the drafting of a letter.
