[Acid Mine Water for Fracking? By MATT HUGHES of The York Daily Record](http://www.ydr.com/state/ci_20567611/pennsylvanias-acid-mine-water-seen-drilling-help)

Very interesting article - is there wastewater in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Mississippi, Alabama, NY, Michigan, Illinois, Montana, North Dakota, and Kansas, etc. that could be used instead of freshwater for fracking? Is the drilling wastewater just too high in Total Dissolved Solids (TDS - salt, etc.) to even be useful for fracking? It looks like it is directly related to the distance from the source to be economical (like most goods and services).

This may apply as a better use for impaired waters from whatever the source! The thing is though is that one must balance out the water budget, if at all possible. E.g., Water removed should equal water replenishment in an ideal scenario.

Regards,

Ralpr

Ralphr,

I am in total agreement that a “net sum zero” is the better scenario for environmental issues.

The Feds released their proposed regulations for Indian and BLM lands. They can be found here:
