# I thought I sold my oil interest

And now 25 years later I’m getting letters wanting to lease my property. Why?

Ask whomever is trying to lease how they got your name and if they have checked its title. A lot of times, they do a wide sweep first in leasing without really checking title.

Here are the Carter County Records with your name: [https://okcountyrecords.com/results/name=benford%2C+john:site=carter/page-1](https://okcountyrecords.com/results/name=benford%2C+john:site=carter/page-1) There is something listed as a Conversion Deed in 1996 but no images available. I would not warranty title in any lease other than agree to return any consideration (bonus) money.

Thank you very much. I thought that maybe the sale I made only covered the sale of that particular well and that I might still retain rights to further exploration.

I see my name in the site too. I don’t know anything about the conversion mortgage though. I need a manager for my mineral properties. I have to find help to clean this up.
