Historically, our family has one or more leases in this well and we are trying to determine a few things:

1. Is it possible to invest in the same well with different companies? Or did the refiner just change multiple times?
2. In all our research, the hardest thing to find is the name of the refiner (or payer of the leases). I can get to the Operator easily through public records, but not the refiner.

Is there a great way to find this information publicly? One Oklahoma researcher mentioned County records would show this information. Further, that State tax records would show actual profitability to confirm production.

Has anyone found a good way to solve any of these challenges?

Thank you!

Chowins 1-11 has Culbreath Oil & Gas Co listed as the operator. The Oil gatherer is Emmaus Energy LLC. The Gas Gatherer is Scissortial Energy LLC. The operator is usually reponsible for paying royalties.

Go to the OK tax site. [https://oktap.tax.ok.gov/oktap/web/\_/#2](https://oktap.tax.ok.gov/oktap/web/_/#2)

Scroll down to the Public Pun search and type in Chowins in the lease name. It will list every well with that name. Pick 1-11 and then you will see all the tabs that go with it.

Amazing information! Thank you.

If I understand you correctly, the lease payer should be Culbreath Oil. So they would be who we contact to inquire about updating ownership?

Yes. The mineral owner is responsible for any updates in ownership.

Your answer leads to another question. Are all leases specific to the product being taken out (e.g., gas or oil only)? If we have a lease on a well will it automatically be for any product from it?

Sorry, the incremental understanding I am getting usually leads to further inquiries!

Read your lease. Most of them say “oil and gas and other minerals” or something along those lines. Many “oil” wells have associated gas. Many “gas” wells have natural gas liquids and condensate (very light oil) so they can come up together.

Oil comes in different “gravity” and has different values. Ditto “Liquids” - ethane is used in plastics, propane and butane are light gases that are liquid in low temperatures. Natural gas is methane. All leases should require an accounting for each as well as any post-well products like brine, bromine, and lithium. Your mineral right is generally intended to be all minerals. Watch for any oddball provisions in a lease… and make sure it is a lease and not a well-disguised deed.

Great suggestion!

However, if we have no original leases, where do we get copies of them?

If you know the ancestor that leased them, you may be able to find them on [www.okcountyrecords.com](http://www.okcountyrecords.com). Free to look, small fee to print. Not all counties go back far enough.

You can also ask the operator for a copy. Contact the Division Order department.

We have found the oil operator of this well—Culbreath Oil & Gas, 3501 S. Yale St. Tulsa, OK 74135—very hard to have meaningful contact with. What are useful strategies when that happens? I read on this site that certified letters have been suggested. Would that be a next step or last option?

Certified letter is a good place to start. State your issue, your history, owner name, owner number and be ready to provide information that they require. May take weeks to get an answer, but having the green return receipt and a copy of your letter starts a paper trail. You want to direct your letter to the Division Order Analyst group.

That well is late in life and has been through several owners. Lewis Resources, Centrex Operating Company and now Culbreath. Maybe more. There are several Chowins wells very close to this one. Another one is in Section 10, also owned by Culbreath.
