Hi. I manage mineral rights for my wife and her mother.

We recently received a notification from a Grady County landman about a property that her deceased father has rights to. It was a surprise to find something still in his name.

From the documentation, I see an assignment made in 1971 but nothing after that. There were two owners on the assignment, but I don’t see a subsequent re-assignment under either name.

How do assignments work? Would he still have rights to this property? I do see deed / title / etc. activity on that property name through the years.

What type of search or investigation should I do in the public records to put these puzzle pieces together?

Thanks!

Are you talking about the assignment of a well or a lease? Or something else?

You can track a well through the OCC at: [Test](https://imaging.occ.ok.gov/imaging/OGWellRecords.aspx) You are looking for the 1073 forms.

You may be able to go back through the 1990’s for any lease transfer at [www.okcountyrecords.com](http://www.okcountyrecords.com) or get a landman to trace it for you.
