# Drill-back outside of the spacing unit

What are they doing when they request a permit renewal stating this? From daily activity report, 10/21/22 North Dakota Oil & Gas

I haven’t heard that term before, but will hazard a guess that the surface location is outside the spacing unit to allow for the turn on the horizontal or that the location was more optimal for getting equipment in and out. The original permit was in 2020 (Covid time), so they may have had to renew it to keep it current.
