The concept of production corridors is really interesting.

Just another way of stating that sweet spots exist in all these targeted formations. Underscores the reservoir heterogeneity issue that is common with these formations.

What about this method of EOR Rockman?

The Benefits of Foam

In a study in October 2013, George Hirasaki, a Rice research professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, explained the process: “We’re trying to understand how foam behaves in porous media because it is a way of making gas act like a more viscous fluid. Normally, gas has very low viscosity and it tends to flow through rock and not displace oil and water. Once it finds a path, usually along the top of a reservoir, the rest of the gas tends to follow. If there were some way to make gas act more like a liquid, to make it more viscous, then it would contact much more of the reservoir and would push the fluids out.”

Been quiet here lately. Thought I’d add something to the discussion.

The question… Is this a good move for LINN or Exxon?

LINN Energy trading Permian acreage to Exxon for acreage on the South Belridge Field in California and some interest in oil field in the Hugoton gas field in Kansas and Oklahoma.

Permian acreage includes Midland, Martin, Andrews, Ector and Howard.

Sumitomo to Probe $1.8 Billion in Shale And Coal Losses

By Ichiro Suzuki and James Paton Sep 29, 2014 5:41 AM CT

"Sumitomo Corp. (8053) will set up a special investigation into how it lost almost $1.8 billion in Texas shale oil and Australian coal mining.

The probe comes after the company, Japan’s fourth-biggest trading house, cut its annual profit forecast by 96 percent after writing down the value of the two investments. Most of the losses were incurred at the shale oil project it shares with Devon Energy Corp. (DVN) of the U.S."

If I remember correctly, Devon had 2 JV deals in the Permian (Midland Basin / Eastern Shelf). The Sumitomo JV was focused (pretty sure) on the Cline Shale area (Fisher, Nolan, Scurry, Glasscock, Eastern Shelf).

I will try to find some historical presentations that showed this JV footprint.

You are the expert. How many are vertical vs horizontal? I didn’t think to include peak month production in the set until after I posted.

AJ,

I can tell you that as far as Dawson County is concerned, almost all that production is from vertical wells. HZ hasn’t really hit Dawson as of yet. The southwest corner and the south central areas are just now getting explored. A few of these seemingly low producing counties might be in the same situation.

Would be interesting to know the ratio of hz vs vertical in each County, wouldn’t it?

AJ,

I don’t understand your question as to vertical vs horizontal. Are you talking about the comparative production from the two years of info? If so, there is no way for me to address vertical vs hz without massive research. But odds are the older wells were almost all vertical while the newest batch has a large number of horizontal wells.

From the tracking I have done in Scurry and Mitchell County, Devon has drilled very few horizontal wells. Now there is a nice producing well in Mitchell that someone drilled that is rumored to be producing 600 barrels a day. Rockman has commented on that thread. In my opinion Sumitomo needs to hold Devon’s feet to the fire to DRILL!
