# Can vertical wells and horizontal wells share a RRC Lease number?

This is in West Texas. If there is an existing, producing vertical Wolfcamp well, and the operator then drills a horizontal Wolfcamp well on the same acreage, will both wells now share the same RRC lease number? Or would the horizontal well get its own lease number? Or I suppose it depends on the situation.

The wells could have the same RRC oil lease number. Oil leases are 5 digits and can have multiple wells. Gas leases are 6 digits and are limited to a single well. One of the wells could later be assigned a different lease number if the operator files to move the well to a different field or to change the well to be a gas well.
